Belize

Currently we are weaving our way through the numerous reefs and small islands off the east coast of Belize.

The Belize Barrier Reef is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, making it the 2nd largest coral system in the world  after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.🇦🇺

Fun wall art

Today it is back to the mainland and Belize City in Belize.
First it’s a 30 minute fun theme park ride on a very large tender from the mother ship into town. 🤢

What better way to cure sea sickness … or the thought that I may get sea sick PP (Precious's Pete)
than to do an early morning rum tasting with 5 different rums. 😵‍💫

This photo is for you Joe (see mate I do smile in pictures) thinking that the few extra tastings helps with the smile.
The meeting with Mr. Rum Runner Man himself may very well be the start of a new aussie venture!
Coconut Rum to drool over … was delish.

Back for a city tour and past this cemetery which is in the Beginners Book of Records for being the only place where a highway goes thought a cemetery, known as the dead centre of town!!!  but as this was relayed to us by our guide after the rum tasting I'm not sure all the information we got today was factor or fiction.

All the places we have visited over the past week are just so colourful

Or sometimes in the past were

or just never were!

The true side of Belize away for the tourist spots … I so wanted to get off the bus and have a taco with this crowd. As there are no food shops as such this is how the population cooks for income.

The colours are just so vibrant, and the razor wire is everywhere!

Not sure painting “NEW SHOP” around that old wire grill where the cashier stands actually means new shop or just new paint!

When we were back in the secure cruise terminal I left Sandy in the safety of this Pina Colada bar as I wanted to go into town to get her some fresh milk for her morning tea
(ship milk is always long life and sucks).
For those who know Sandy know she loves a good strong morning tea with a a good dollop of milk!

Typical taxi drivers at the gates of the cruise terminal telling tourist that you will be robbed and or even killed is you didn't pay them 10 USD ($16.88) to be delivered to the front door of the local supermarket. “But sir I can see it for here” I think I will risk my life and he was the one trying to rob I’m 50% thought the possible horrendous dangers and out comes he had mentioned.
I did … being a bit over cautious ask the local police lady at the gate if she thought I should risk going on my up and coming expedition to the supermarket for milk? She assured me that it was safe.

Over the bridge I go

Up the street

And as I’m writing this blog … I did survive my outing to the supermarket.

(Jokes aside, some parts of the countries where we are currently travelling are very dangerous for tourists and you need to keep your wits about you at all times)

I did have a heart attack at the cost of the fresh milk and this is where the locals shop.
But fresh milk is a luxury here in Belize.
Where I wanted to get off the bus and have a taco on the street corner with the locals, you get
3 tacos for $1.00 Aussie and a coffee for 50c. Therefore getting a takeaway meal for $1.50 makes paying $13.50 for a litre of milk extravagant.

💜 Enjoy your tea my lovely 💜
