Lecce - Our Accommadation

From Taranto to Lecce and what polar opposites they are.

So now as we are going to stay in one of the wealthy cities in Southern Italy you need to stay in one of the cities wealthiest family palazzo.

Come for a pictorial tour of where we are staying, the entrance is the typical large heavy timber double doors coming in off the old city's cobbled street.

Stepping up and bending thought the cut out that was made for somewhat shorter people of those earlier Italian generations.

Turning back around to see the carriage house entrance to the tall vaulted ceiling and 1810 flagstone floors.

Up the worn 1650’s steps that have seen many generations of the family coming and going to flashy balls in the old city, prior to now the feet of tourist over the past few years.

Past the 1940’s elevator that was Sandy's relief saving her from all the stairs and it was also her captor as on one occasion she needed rescuing as the doors wouldn’t open!!!!

The day Sandy was released after her 45 minutes in captivity was a huge relief … for me!!! … Sandy was fine, it was me having the meltdown and this is why I take the steps.

Into the vestibule with 3 doors leading to the now bed & breakfast, ours is the centre double doors.
This is where the wow started with all the hand painted vaulted ceiling and antiques.
Photos will never do it true justice.

Into our sitting room with the original 1810 tiled floors and more antiques.

Check out the ceiling … it is just simply stunning.

Much time I spent laying on the cool floor in the sitting room
just looking up admiring the details and picking out subtle difference from side to side knowing it is all free hand and no stencils.

Antiques and objects de art to drool over.
 Pete in his happy place

Just so elegantly appointed.

Into the bed chamber where several generations of upper crusted Italians were created!

The silver matrimonial bed … at first glance looks like a hospital bed! It has been adorned with a bronze lady at one end and

a cute cherub at the other. The hole that you can see was
where there was a spread winged bird which the current generation had removed as it took up to much space
for the longer legged guest.

Somewhere to hang my hat after a long hot day sightseeing was probably not what the master of the palazzo had intended her be used for! But hey, it looks good on her.

Yet more painted ceilings

Finally out onto our own Romeo and Juliet balconies.

To be able to take in all the atmosphere of the old city has to offer.

These guys set on the other side of the ally and they were fantastic.
The Italian music harmoniously filling the air and up onto our balconies, we felt like it was our own little concert.
