Savona - The Old City

So I hit the streets early this morning as this afternoon we set sail on a 7 day cruise down the west coast of Italy heading for Taranto (Puglia) southern Italy.
The covered walk ways with their smooth as granite floors from centuries of feet traffic are a delight to wander
in and around.

Climbed to the top of the old castle (fortezza del Priamar) and the view over Savona and out to the mediterranean ocean was spectacular.
Savona is only a small city with a population around 60K

In the castle the ancient floors are not so smooth but so interesting the changes from stone to brick ect.
All depicting different times in the history of the castle.

The musky dank smell of the ancient stone sits very heavy in the air as I make my way into the cloisters and through stone tunnels that connect different part of the castle.

Was a fabulous place to explore.
