Sure it has some city problems and the tourist over crowding is huge. But once you have done the main sites it's time to explore the real side of Venice, after dark when most of the day only tourist have gone home for the night. Sitting in a historical square at a small restaurant with maybe 5 tables.
We are staying on the Grand Cannel in the same apartment that we were in before the cruise so have already sussed out quite little bars and a funky "very alternate" jazz bar.
Had a simple street lunch today of pizza sitting on the steps of a church watching the world go by, the views in all directions was stunning.
