Arrived into Venice Friday 8th September.
So a couple of home truths re driving now that the car is safely tucked back into its sooo tight parking space some 10 floors up a narrow, continual spiral and steep parking tower above Piazzale Roma.
So far this sector of the trip we have driven 1200 km on the other side of the road and not all of the km were totally needed!
From Rome through 6 food regions and cooked in 5 along the way and now into Venice. For us Venice one of the most magical cities of the world.
So I suppose we have not done to badly, no dings! and only a couple of hoots, raised fist and swearing per day so haven't cheesed off to many Italians!!
Got lost several times ... par the course in Italy, but the best one was on night 2 trying to get from the little town of Tolfa back to our accommodation at Fontane del Papa. It was a dark night and the first time that we had driven at night and for the life of me I just could find the high beam switch. The car has a auto light mode which is great for day driving and coming into the long dark Italian tunnels ... it was like magic and just happen, which is good for me the novice driver. But all I could do was hold it on high beam, which when I need all hands for driving on the other side of the road on a very dark, narrow and windy mountain road ... was to say a little challenging! So 2 hours and many a missed drive by's latter! a journey that was only 6 km (shameful maybe I should have went to scouts!) somehow we just kept missing the well hidden driveway. By day easy ... by night hmmmm spooky! it was down a very step hill, having to dodge the huge cows with there big horns and not to mention the wild stubborn donkeys that just won't move from in front of the car, so finely hidden behind overhanging trees and around a very tight curve all but dropping over a cliff we arrived. So needless to say the next morning we had a Italian lesion for Andrea on how to make the lights work.
Over the past 2 weeks with "several vino's as our night time therapy" all my bad driving is forgotten!
Todays NO CAR so vino served in Murano glass from our 15th century apartment in Venice overlooking the Grand Cannel.
Driving over there sounds like a real experience. Take care.
ReplyDeleteVino well deserved!
