Leaving Venice

It was a slightly grey afternoon so gave some great contrast of Venice against the sky ….. Past the entrance of the Grand Canal, St Mark’s Square and St Mark’s Basilica and the Doges Palace …. Venice sits on an archipelago of small islands in a lagoon, connected by around 400 bridges and over the past week my legs feel that they may have well been over all of them! ….. now decorated with plunder from the sacking of Constantinople in 1204, and the Doge’s Palace where the doges ruled over the city till 1792. We are off for 7 nights sailing in and around the Greek Islands.

Leaving the terminal with St Marks in the distance, the view from deck 11 is amazing over Venice.

Saint Marks

Always have to look up the Saint Marks just so beautiful.

Leaving Saint Marks via the back streets is past some stunning glass shops a little something for girls suitcases maybe!!

Then Lorna spotted a little pair of crystal shoes, when I told her the price she decided that they looked perfect in the window!!!
Shame to spoil the window display

Views on Venice

When you have this view you spend a lot of time just looking out the window

Hugo ... Pronounced Ooogo

The trendy northern drink this season in Italy is” Hugo” or as the Venetians say “Oogo”. Apparently! we are just so crass how us Aussies pronounce the letter H, for the Venetian is a softer Ooo … whatever! just pour me another and I’m sure I will start to soften my “H’s” as the evening progresses. Then I think I will be speaking like a real Venetian (I’sss ave oonother Ooooogo prefarvory) So it’s made with Prosecco, Menta (mint leaves) and Sambuco, but not Sambuca as I thought it was … this is Italian Sambuco a sweet syrup made from elderflowers. Soooooo easey to drink. Lorna also had discovered Hugo on her backroads tour through Tuscany and when we picked her up from her tour the rest of her new bus friends just couldn’t wait to tell us that Lorna has meet Hugo!!!! So, when I told her we too have been introduced to Hugo we are headed for the 1st bar to welcome Lorna to Venice!

See Food

Sandy always said I’m a “see food eater” … I see food and I have to eat it … now I have found a great little Venetian osteria that even has it on the menu.

The see bream and the see bass both looked good but to today for me it’s the spaghetti see food!
Mind you it turned out not to be spaghetti and it was real hard to SEA the see food, well that's the tourist traps in Venice
BUT the flavour off the see food sauce! fantastic so no complaints.

Venice by Night

Venice takes on a mystique and romantic magic as the sun fades into the venetian night and the lights bounce off the water in the canals.
