One of the traditional treats that we wanted to fine in Torino was this little coffee shop in a back little square away from the hustle and bushel of the city around it.
Bicerin is a hot drink that was first made here on this very spot 250 years ago and the shop is still in the same building and has a great street vibe with people coming and going all just to taste and enjoy this drink. It is just out side of one of Torino most amazing Basicilla that was foundered in this spot back in 1030 in a lower chapel under the now huge ornate Basicilla.
I must admit that I have been in orr of the ornate churches and the amazing architecture that I have seen around Italy, but the huge difference between the poor people and the churches wealth does challenge my mind about the times past...... and the times of today.....
But back across the small square and my hot wine glass of cococoffee yum.
It is a molten hot chocolate as the base with a couple of shots of expresso topped with cold thick cream.
You are instructed to drink it in the traditional way, sitting naked with your legs crossed with a north east breeze across you back...... Just making sure you are concentrating . So sip it slowly through the cream and " don't stir "
sit back and relax and it was amazing but I'm sure the Italian atmosphere in this little square out side this grand Basicilla did also help.......
