Amarone Wine a Real Treat

Today it's a break from cooking and Andrea and Lara want to take us to a traditional winery in Lake Garda

Back home a friend from the Tamworth food a wine group had had Amarone and said if we get a chance we should source it out but it is a bit on the expensive side. So what great luck that the very vineyard that we visited today made Amarone. This area is very small and only 2 small areas growing the grapes needed for this drop and the production is under the DOC so again protected, so you know what your are buying is going to be original.
I did have a glass in Venice and it was beautiful.
The grapes are picked and and then laid on bamboo drying racks for 3 months. The pressing is low in volume but a very rich intense juice is created.
The wine should be cellared and have at least 8 years and should be opened for 1 hour per year before you drink it, so not a last minute quaffer before a BBQ!
We were not disappointed and will be looking into the Australian importer in Melbourne to get some back home.
We did leave with 2 x 2008 for 27€ each to be had over our travels and a very special bottle of limited edition 2000 for 95 € to have maybe on our last night in Italy as it will also be the end of the financial year.
So what a way to celebrate....
