Heading To Bari in Italy

Spent the 1st night sailing down from Venice via the east coast of Italy and arrived into the town of Bari in the southern food region of Puglia, it is one of Sandy and my favourite parts of Italy. It’s the area of the occerchetti pasta (firm style, water and flour base which looks like little ears) as well as Primitivo (vino Roso) and we just happen to find a little place to pick up a couple of bottles.

Remember on a few of our past American cruises lines we have had to try to sneak a local drop or two back onto the ship as we want to have the local wine of the area … well this is a “Costa” Cruise Line, so try telling the Italian’s that they can’t bring a bottle of wine or 10 from the shore to enjoy on their deck and there would be very many unhappy Italians! Not a pretty look so good for us too. Puglia is away from all the big tourist parts of northern Italy and Roma. We took one of the ships tours to Alberobello the home of the Truili house. We only have 6 hours, so to hire a car and do it ourselves was just going to be too rushed so sit back and enjoy the bus ride.

Such a pretty little white town with a total of 1400 Truili.
The stories goes that the early Italian didn't want to pay taxes hmmm nothing much has changed now!!
So as the house were dismountable and by removing the keystone in the roof it all came crumbling down to a big pile of rocks.
So when the tax man arrived that what they did, it was in the 18th century that they finally started to use some mortar and make more permanent and started to pay some tax thus a town was formed.
The world over ... TM ... tax minimisation.

  1. Very interesting. I'll bring that up at my next tax discussion session.
